Hear From Some of Our Athletes

So often, our walking group will be out on the Pinellas Trail and we hear people say,

“I could never walk that fast!”

Those comments make me feel proud, especially because that’s what I thought five years ago, too! Steady progress, great friends, and fun exercise.

I have never called myself an athlete. I started walking with the Walk-Fitness group to gain a little tone to the old FLAB I added to my body over the years.

After learning the basics of race walking and adding more miles and effort into the sport, I was still unable to call myself an athlete.

However, I recently had a serious health issue but was able to bounce back much quicker than the doctors ever believed possible. I am now willing to call myself an athlete in the “Game of an Enjoyable Life.”

If we are lucky, we will live long enough to become “older people.” I am there, and walking has become even more important than when I was 50, 60, or 70. It has been the major thing that has given me the high quality of life that I want. Walking is important for disease prevention, weight control, muscle maintenance, stress relief, and improved bone density, but the mental health benefits of social contact and dementia prevention are equally important.

The mental and physical fitness gained from walking prevents negative aging effects from happening, promotes quicker recovery from anything from surgeries to injuries, and allows you to get back to what you love in record time.

I stopped running years ago because it caused me knee pain. However, after learning the proper mechanics of walking and getting my joints aligned, I am back to running pain free and more efficiently.

To feel great and move freely, our exercise programs begin with an individual corrective assessment addressing postural and movement inefficiencies. From there we customize your workout to lengthen tight muscles and strengthen areas of weakness.

This assures a fun and rewarding experience helping to promote and maintain a lifelong commitment to exercise.
